Susan Henson

Susan Henson joined WGC Lawyers in 2017 to assist Director Jacqui Lee Long with the wills and estates practice.

A senior lawyer with more than 20 years’ experience in property and commercial law, Susan’s experience includes advising developers, banks, bodies corporate, sugar mills, government clients and individuals on a variety of complex issues.

This places her in good stead to assist clients who have complex business and trust structures with their estate planning. She often reviews existing estate plans, trust deeds, company constitutions and superannuation arrangements.

Susan also acts in the administration of deceased estates, including probate applications, and gives advice regarding elder law issues, including granny flat arrangements.

In today’s world where blended families are increasingly common, Susan is often called upon to give advice to clients about possible challenges to wills and the steps that might be taken to reduce the risks of a challenge. This includes advice about excluding someone as a beneficiary under a will.

For some clients, a more complex will with a testamentary trust is required. Susan prepares these for clients who are concerned about protecting family wealth after their death. These are particularly helpful where, for instance, a beneficiary is at risk of a relationship breakdown or a beneficiary is unable to manage their inheritance wisely on their own.

Susan can also prepare living wills, called advance health directives, for end of life decisions.

Priding herself on her ability to explain complex legal concepts so that clients can readily understand, Susan has a friendly, empathetic manner and genuinely enjoys helping her clients to achieve the peace of mind that good estate planning can bring.
