» Monica Smith

Monica joined WGC Lawyers in a legal support role in January 2018 after relocating to Cairns from South Australia. In January 2023, she was promoted to Office Manager where she oversees the firm’s operations, including payroll, human resources, IT services, marketing and general office support.

As a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, Monica actively contributes to strategic decision-making and operational planning. She is known as the firm’s “go-to” person, coordinating staff resources and implementing initiatives to boost employee wellbeing and enhance the WGC client experience. Monica is passionate about innovation and developing processes and procedures that leverage the latest industry trends. She is constantly seeking opportunities to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and enhance the overall effectiveness of the firm.

Monica was born and raised in Victoria and has lived in several different cities and states across Australia – the upshot of having a partner who previously served in the Australian Defence Force. With over 14 years of experience in legal support and paralegal roles across various practice areas at several boutique and national firms, Monica brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her position. She completed a Bachelor of Management in 2017 whilst working full-time and is committed to professional development, recently nominating for a position on the Australasian Legal Practice Management Associations’ QLD/NT Branch Committee.

Outside of work, Monica has a young family and is kept busy with children’s sporting commitments and keeping up with washing! Her true passions lie in travel and catching up with family who live interstate.

Monica continues to be a vital force behind the scenes at WGC, ensuring the firm operates smoothly and efficiently everyday.
